Juntendo University

Juntendo University is the oldest continuously running Western-style medical school in Japan, founded in 1838 as the Dutch medical academy "Wadajuku" in Edo. With nine faculties, eight graduate schools, six affiliated teaching hospitals and a student-to-faculty ratio of 4.7, Juntendo has built a global reputation for medicine, health sciences and sports science, but its English-taught exchange programmes through the Faculty of International Liberal Arts (FILA) make it equally compelling for students from the humanities, business and social sciences. As an exchange student you'll be hosted by FILA on the Hongo-Ochanomizu Campus, sitting in the heart of Tokyo just five minutes by metro from Tokyo Station. Hongo is the city's largest student district, a calm, safe and walkable neighbourhood where Edo-period samurai residences have been replaced by some of Japan's leading universities, independent bookshops, cafés and izakayas. You'll be a short train ride from Shibuya, Shinjuku, Akihabara and Asakusa, with the rest of Japan within easy reach via the Shinkansen network. The exchange offering is structured around three tracks you can mix freely. The Japan Studies Program (JSP) is fully English-taught and immersive: think Japanese history since 1800, manga and anime, calligraphy, samurai culture, aikido, Japanese entrepreneurship and holistic medicine. The Liberal Arts Program (LAP) is bilingual and lets you go deeper into philosophy, sociology, cultural anthropology, global health, biomedical sciences and medical English. Most popular electives are delivered in English, but Japanese sections are open to capable speakers. The Japanese Language and Culture Studies Program (JLCSP) is a full Japanese-language immersion track for students who want to come back fluent. A semester gives you a full course load that converts to credit at your home university, ending with an official Juntendo certificate. Juntendo has 100 partner institutions across 30 countries and a dedicated international centre that handles housing placement, registration and arrival logistics. As a uniclub student you get the same dedicated support on this side: course pre-approval, scholarship templates, udlandsstipendium support, and a personal advisor for the full process, at no cost. If you've ever pictured studying in Tokyo, early-morning runs along the Sumida River, weekend trips to Kyoto, internships in one of the world's most dynamic cities, Juntendo is one of the strongest academic addresses you can do it from.
